Energy

Our Community Energy Project aims to investigate and encourage a sustainable energy future for Waiheke.

We have been learning as a community about:

  • The nature of energy
  • Conservation of energy
  • Use of energy and its generation

The programme includes:

  • Movies
  • Guest speakers
  • Field trips
  • Research projects with Auckland University’s Engineering School to investigate sources of sustainable energy for Waiheke. We have two projects so far completed - One looking at the feasibility of tidal turbines at the bottom end of Waiheke, and one looking at sustainable transport options for the island.

We have information sheets available that give practical ways that household can reduce their energy use and save money. these are available from the Waiheke Resources Centre.
