Junk to Funk - 7 Day Challenge

One bag of recycled materials, 7 days to make something AMAZING that tells the story of how you would create a better Waiheke...

This year, Junk to Funk is running differently from previous years. The big challenge is that you only have 7 days to complete your entry, utilizing a bag of mystery materials. So although you can begin planning your creation, you'll need to keep an open mind about what materials you'll be using!

HOW IT WORKS

  1. Register at the WRT office or by clicking . Registration costs $10 for kids and $15 for Teams, Youths and Adults. You can pay your registration fee online or at the Waiheke Resources Trust office in Artworks
  2. On Saturday the 14th of January come to the WRT office from 12 noon to get your bag of materials. Everyone will get an identical bag of materials, the contents of which will remain secret until the day. The more mystery supplies you use, the higher marks your entry will score. To receive your mystery bag of materials, you need to register and have paid your entry fee
  3. Spend the next 7 days creating madly. Your entry can be wearable, sculptural, beautiful or useful (or all of the above!). You may use additional recycled materials along with nails, screws, glue, thread etc. There will be construction clubs running throughout the week where you can come to get ideas, materials and help from our crafty tutors. These are FREE for registered participants.
  4. Entries must be handed in to the WRT office on Saturday the 21st of January by 12 noon. Along with your entry, you need to write a brief explanation of how it illustrates this year's theme: 'Creating a Better Waiheke.' Entries will be judged that evening
  5. On Sunday 22nd come to the Sustainability Festival's Sunday Market from 10am to show off your entry and for the Junk to Funk prize giving
  6. Be super proud of yourself for proving that waste is a resource and showing the world how its done!
