Gardening & Composting for Schools

Growing food at school is a fantastic way to teach students about where food really comes from and gives them practical skills that will last them a lifetime.

  • Start a school vege garden. This can be incorporated into all aspects of the curriculum as students get involved in all aspects of growing their own food from planning, sowing, planting and composting through to harvesting, cooking, preserving and even selling the food they grow.
  • Plant a fruit orchard for students. Excess fruit can be preserved or bottled and sold with profits going back into the gardening project.
  • The compost from school worm farms or Bokashi bins can be used in the school garden.
