Waiheke Resources Trust

Since 1998 we have been at the forefront of sustainable living initiatives, offering a range of resources, education, and services that support a healthier, more sustainable future for our community.

Our Sustainability Centre

The Waiheke Sustainability Centre has been home to the WRT offices, workshops and ecostore refillery since 2016. A hub for our community, it provides a unique and welcoming space that groups can hire to host events and connect with the Waiheke community.

We had a fabulous lot of @neighboursaotearoa event

We had a fabulous lot of @neighboursaotearoa events across the end of March and start of April! Folks from all corners of Surfdale get to know their neighbours better as they met Aya’s chooks, had a Zero Waste evening block party, and enjoyed a yummy BBQ whilst listening to Adam sharing Waiheke’s experience of getting the Bottom End community together and preparing for emergencies. Local Surfdale residents shared about things happening around the ‘hood - the food forest behind @waihekeconnect’s co-working space, the @waiheke_toylibrary in the parking lot next door by Surfdale Hall, @tekorowaiowaiheke’s pest control programme, and the resources and emergency preparedness of Livingwaters Church. These were chances for people to really connect, have a good time, and think about next steps like planning future get-togethers, reviving the Surfdale FB page, and developing a WhatsApp neighbourhood network 🤔 Rocky Bay’s mix’n’mingle evening turned into a community celebration of Roscoe’s 80th, with a beautiful time in Glenda’s garden and families swapping numbers. And Shelly Beach residents participated in a fabulous street party complete with games for tamariki and a celebration of their pest control efforts 🥳 And let’s acknowledge that it’s not just about the day itself; it’s about the growing connections developed as neighbours doorknocked to let people know about this event 🤩 Sick people were offered support, neighbours got encouraged to come along and meet each other, and everyone was invited to create a better sense of community belonging. Thanks to Waiheke Local Board for their Neighbours Aotearoa funding that brings our Waiheke neighbourhoods together so that we can support each other and create a flourishing, inclusive and resilient community! And ka pai to all the event organisers who really embodied the Grow Together theme this year 💚 There are some great follow-up discussions being had across the motu! #EcofestNZ #EcoFest2024 #NeighboursAotearoa

Toha atu toha mai | I share with you, you share with me Bring your garden and kitchen surplus to Crop Swap and meet others who find joy in the moneyless exchange of mother nature’s abundance! Seedlings, produce, baking, preserves, and everything in between. This month will be on the 21st of April at 10 AM!
