LOWW Community Planting Day at Owhanake

FB cover July11

We’ll be planting natives out in Owhanake on Sunday 11 July 10am – 12:30pm, so come join us and help restore the mauri of our wonderfuls Waiheke wetlands. Turn up with your friends, whānau, and a spade if you have it — we will be meeting at the Owhanake car park off Korora Rd, so we recommend carpooling if you can. Don’t forget to stay for some free kai after we’re done!

This year WRT’s Love our Wetlands project is planting around 10,000 eco-sourced natives with the generous support of our funders and the local community. These plants have an important job; their roots will harness soil to the hillside, preventing erosion. The soil can then trap sediment and filter nutrients, which prevents contamination downstream to rivers and oceans.
