Want to help us fight dredging in the Waitemata Harbour and dumping in the seas near Great Barrier Island?
Protect Our Gulf is a Waiheke Island environmental organisation focused on protecting the sea and all the beautiful life in it.
We are appealing the dredging consent after Auckland Council gave consent on 6 August 2020 to Ports of Auckland to dredge the Rangitoto shipping channel and downtown port area.
Ports of Auckland from dredging more than 2.5 million cubic metres of sediment from the Waitematā Harbour over the next 15 years, plus 15,000 tonnes a year for the next 35 years. They also plan to dump up to 3.75 million cubic metres of the dredged sludge between Great Barrier Island and Coromandel Peninsula over the next 35 years.
If you’re interested in finding out more and seeing how you can help, please come to the meeting!
