Guided Monthly Viewing of the Night Sky on Waiheke Island
Each month, Dark Sky Waiheke Island deliver new and amazing stargazing experiences.
A typical evening will include an introduction in the Centre building to what can be seen in the night sky, followed by an outside tour of the sky and viewing individual stars, star clusters, nebulae, planets and the moon (when visible) through powerful telescopes and binoculars.
Dark Sky Waiheke Island is an organisation committed to furthering residents’ and visitors’ enjoyment of the Island’s wonderful dark night skies by improving their understanding of what’s to be seen ‘up there’ whilst helping to keep light pollution on the island in check. In an effort to ensure this enjoyment and improve people’s understanding of how they can minimise pollution from artificial light at night (ALAN) which can be damaging for biodiversity and human health, Dark Sky Waiheke Island in partnership with the Waiheke Resources Trust (WRT) is now offering monthly telescope viewings at the Waiheke Sustainability Centre in Mako Street, Oneroa.
Come join us and enjoy an exciting look at the wonderfully dark night sky!
