Swoop into the Waiheke Sustainability Centre on Wednesday 26 May for an evening dedicated to the kākāriki with Te Korowai o Waiheke and wild parrot expert Luis Ortiz, PHD.
Having studied wild parrots in New Zealand and Australia for 17 years, Luis completed his postgraduate studies in Aotearoa focusing on translocation techniques for kākāriki by conducting the largest transfer of the red-faced variant of the species to date.
Named in part for their vibrant green plumage, the native parakeets once called Waiheke home, but have since been driven away by rat and stoat predation.
The free event runs from 6.30pm – 8pm. There will be time for a Q&A following the talk and light refreshments provided.
